Gum disease is mankind's most prevalent dangerous disease! Are you or someone you love at risk?
When asked what is mankind's most prevalent disease, most people would say the common cold. But since colds and similar infectious diseases caused by a temporary infection go away in a few days or a week, probably at any given time only one percent of the population has colds. But depending upon age, at any moment over 75% of the population has gum disease. This disease is prevalent and highly contagious ( you can transmit gum disease to someone else with a kiss!) And once you have gum disease, it doesn't go away without treatment.
This becomes particularly alarming when you consider that the most recent research has discovered an important connection between periodontal disease and heart disease, stroke, diabetes, pre-term low birth weight babies, some forms of cancers, Alzheimer's, respiratory disease, kidney disease plus many others.
Our office, which is an affiliate of the Centers for Dental Medicine, provides a new standard of care for preventative medicine as the bridge between dentistry and medicine. We provide a thorough gum health screening and if you are at risk for any of these diseases we will coordinate with your medical team to reduce your health risks.
And if you do require periodontal treatment, the good news is that it can be done painlessly avoiding surgery in most cases! This treatment has no side effects and in fact enhances your overall health.
